The
past performance of MDA
has been remarkable as
it has executed major
projects of city development
work of Rs one billion.
MDA successfully completed
its thirteen housing
schemes,
for which land was acquired
under Punjab Acquisition
of Land [Housing] Act,
1973, but with the repeal
of this act, MDA could
not launch its further
housing
schemes as land under
Land
Acquisition Act, 1894,
now land has to be purchased
on
market
value which is quite
beyond
the reach of Authority.
Nevertheless, MDA with
the cooperation of Evacuee
Trust Property Board
(ETPB)
launched Multan Model
Town
housing scheme (phase-I&II)
in 1999 on an area of
91
acres with 472 residential
plots of 1-kanal and
10-marla
size. Initially it suffered
set-back due to blocking
of
the site
for Government's Mera
Ghar scheme but later
on
the site was returned
to MDA. At the moment
all
the residential plots
stand disposed off
by
2004. In year 2000,
the
case of New Shah Shams
Housing
Scheme was decided
in
favour
of MDA after 14-years
of litigation that helped
MDA to generate adequate
funds. Now MDA is
now looking
forward to Multan
Model
Town Phase-III (self
financing)
scheme on 37 acres
and
Fatima Jinnah Town
over
an area of 670 acres
to
provide 5601
plots. Consisting
of
226 plots
of
one kanal
and ten
marlas
have already been
disposed
off
through balloting.
For
Model Town Phase-III,
MDA has already
called
applications from
the
general public
and
balloting
will be held shortly
for 226 plots
of
1-kanal
and 10-marla.
Whereas
acquisition proceedings
for Fatima Jinnah
Town
are in progress. 50%
plots of this
scheme
are
proposed to be
earmarked
for government
employees.
The authority
would
have done more
progress if
the funds were
provided timely,
still its progress
is appreciable
in the housing
contribution.
